The third APYLC was held in Indonesia because of the uniqueness of Indonesia as the largest developing country. Hold in Indonesia with the hope that it will become a place of learning for students from other countries to provide new perceptions of global issues that will be discussed in this forum and become a real learning experience. Indonesia which is rich in ethnic, religious and educational backgrounds produces diverse thoughts and experiences.
The topics discussed by APYLC are technology for the community, handling waste, urban planning, gender wage gaps, and refugee rights. IBCWE, represented by the Executive Director, Maya Juwita, got the opportunity to share about the gender wage gap.
The gender wage gap is an important issue that is fought in the effort of gender equality. Women are believed to have a destiny as role holders in homes and domestic work. This causes women to be considered not the main breadwinners and receive fewer wages than men. According to the World Economic Forum the global economic gap between men and women requires 202 years to close it. Women receive an average salary of only 63% of what men receive.
Therefore, IBCWE tries to build early awareness of APYLC participants on this issue. Providing understanding of gender and sharing experiences on gender issues in each country. IBCWE strives to provide an overview of the world of work and the challenges that must be faced regarding the inequalities that women often receive. And what causes the gender wage gap and how to close it.
