December 24, 2023Textiles and textile products (TPT) are one of the five manufacturing sectors that the government prioritizes to develop in implementing the fourth industrial revolution. This is in accordance with the Making Indonesia 4.0 road map, which proclaims the world’s top five target in 2030 for the textile industry.
In Central Java, the textile industry covers the areas of Solo, Boyolali, Sukoharjo, Sragen, and Wonogiri. Since the last few years, in this place there has been a lot of industrial growth, both in the form of new investments, factory expansion, and factory relocation from the Jabotabek area. This is what makes the textile industry potential increasingly ogled. This is what underlies the establishment of the Textile and Textile Product Industry Community Academy (AK-Tekstil) in Solo, Central Java.
Inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on January 22, 2016, the establishment of AK-Tekstil is expected to be able to increase the productivity and competitiveness of the national textile industry. The establishment of this academy has been approved by the Ministry of Research and Technology and Higher Education, as well as the Ministry of PAN and RB. Thus, the academy officially became an industrial vocational university under the Ministry of Industry, and collaborated with the Solo City Government and the Indonesian Textile Association (API).
There are three study programs taught at AK-Tekstil, namely the Thread Making, Fabric Making and Garment Making Study Programs. Considering that the demand is quite large, the process of recruiting students is divided into two groups, namely the general public and garment company employees. When undergoing education for two years, all tuition fees will be free. After graduation, all graduates will be placed to work in textile companies located in Solo and its surroundings.
One of the initiators of the establishment of AK-Tekstil Solo, as well as the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Environment Committee, is from PT Dan Liris, Harisson Silaen, said that the learning method applied by AK-Tekstil Solo adopted a dual system concept from Germany. Every semester, for a month students will learn theory, and one month and a half practice on campus, at one and a half months the rest will do work practices at the company. “By adopting this concept, education on campus and work experience in the industry will be more easily integrated, so graduates produced are truly ready-to-work graduates,” Harisson said.
To print human resources in the superior and competitive TPT industry, AK-Tekstil has redesigned the curriculum, related to current industrial developments. Therefore, several textile companies have opened themselves to accept AK-Tekstil graduates, which are expected to strengthen the company’s performance. Some of the textile companies include PT Dan Liris, PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk, PT Pan Brothers Tbk, PT Duniatex, and so on.
The Assistant Director of AK-Tekstil Solo, Hendi Dwi Hardiman, admitted that the high demand for human resources in the textile sector at this time cannot yet be fully fulfilled by the AK-T Solo, considering there are still gaps between the industry’s needs and the number of graduates. With the existence of the Solo AK-T, Hendi remains confident that there will be synergy and good cooperation between universities and industrial companies. The company can provide a place for Solo AK-T graduates to be able to work immediately, and other companies are no longer worried about the competencies possessed by graduates in that place. At present, all graduates are immediately placed in work in industries that have signed the MOU with Solo AK-T.
