December 24, 2023The level of employment in Indonesia in 2019 is reduced, with the addition of the workforce of 2.24 million people. Based on the data of the Badan Penelitian Statistik (BPS) the number of working force in February 2019 increased by 1.7% to 136, 18 million people when compared to February 2018.
In line with the increase in the number of working force, the labour force participation rate (TPAK) increased 0.12% to 69.32% compared to the same period last year. This indicates the economic potential of the increased labor supply.
Unfortunately, although the unemployment rate is reduced, TPAK women in Indonesia are still far below the male TPAK. Based on Badan Penelitian Statistik (BPS) data, if viewed based on gender (gender), TPAK is still dominated by men with 83.18% of participation. Meanwhile, women’s TPAK only amounted to 55.5%. On an annual basis, male TPAK rises 0.17% while females only rise 0.06%.
This condition is certainly not in line with gender equality that is imsocialized in the workforce. Whereas women empowerment is very important to the economy of a country.
Quoted from the site Merdeka.com, Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani Indrawati said, labor participation or the participation of female labour force in Indonesia is only 54 percent. The figure is still far behind when compared to male labour force as much as 83 percent. “I mentioned labor participation for women, it’s still far behind just 54 percent compared to more than 83 percent for men,” said Sri Mulyani.
Former managing director of the World Bank added, the government will also cooperate with BPS to see the condition statistically. “With statistical data, it will usually provide information and also evidence so that the issue regarding gender can be placed as objective, ” he said.
