Work-life balance practice becomes more challenging during a pandemic due to workspace and personal space become one location. Also, the domestic role that is still borne by women increasing the impact on women in terms of economic security, employment, political representation to health, including the mental health of women workers.
Based on the Work from Home survey conducted by IBCWE in early 2020, 36 percent of respondents felt a negative impact on their mental health. The main reasons are worries about the current situation, financial problems, work, and family balance.
Maintaining mental health is very important. However, there are still many people who ignore their “tiredness” because they don’t know how to deal with it. If not addressed, mental health will have a physical impact, such as headaches, stomach aches, aches, weight gain or loss, depression, anxiety, apathy to decreased productivity.
How to recognize fatigue mentally?
- Prolonged physical fatigue
- Emotional instability
- Unwillingness to interact with other people
- Crying for no reason or being more sensitive to the little things
- Motivation decreases drastically
How to relieve mental fatigue?
Break
Start from something as simple as taking regular lunch breaks, setting aside a 15-minute break from work just to take a walk or get some fresh air. Then, have some free time on the weekends.
Sports
It doesn’t have to be high-intensity sports, many simple sports can be done in just 15-20 minutes on Youtube.
Relaxation
A study says that mediation can lower cortisol levels in the blood that can reduce the risk of stress-related diseases.
Get enough sleep and on-time
Try to get eight hours of sleep. Avoid spending too much time in bed and establish bedtime routines, such as making the same bedtime clock.
Communicate with your partner about what you feel
If there are things that feel blocked, tell your partner. So, they will understand and understand your condition.
Share a domestic role with your spouse
Learning to share domestic work with your spouse, so that it can ease the work done by women with double burdens because domestic work can be done by anyone, regardless of whether they are women or men.
Medical treatment
If you have tried some of the methods above, but still can’t handle your stress, immediately ask a professional for help. A mental health professional can provide you with the right treatment, therapy, or medication to help you cope and get through difficult times.
Not only a priority of themselves, but the mental health of workers also be a priority for leaders and companies, especially during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
How can a leader or company help employees maintain mental health during working hours:
- Care for each other
- Create a conversation space between employees to share grievances
- Provide access for employees to discuss mental problems
