December 24, 2023December 14, 2017 marked one year of IBCWE. This organization that has a mission to support businesses to play an optimal role in enhancing women’s economic empowerment and gender equality. IBCWE held a simple celebration event at Palalada restaurant, Grand Indonesia, Jakarta, last night (19/12). In addition to the founding companies’ leaders, the celebration was also attended by representatives of a number of leading companies in Indonesia.
The event was opened by IBCWE Executive Director Dini Widiastuti who briefly reviewed the IBCWEs’ journey. “The evidence shows why businesses should care about gender equality and women empowerment is quite a lot,” said Dini, who also delivered a glimpse of IBCWE travel.
The chairman of the Board of Trustees IBCWE Shinta Widjaja Kamdani reflected the beginning of the establishment of IBCWE. “There are many NGOs working on issues of gender equality. Then what about business? What is the contribution of the business world? “Shinta shared the background of the IBCWE formation which continued with the effort to forge coalitions among businesses to realize the idea of realizing gender equality by the private sector. IBCWE was founded by eight companies namely Sintesa Group, PT Gajah Tunggal, Tbk, Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional (BTPN), PT Pan Brothers, Tbk, Accenture Indonesia, Adis Dimension Footwear, Mitra Adi Perkasa, and Unilever, and additional one coalition member Jones LangSalle (JLL) Indonesia. Shinta also expressed her appreciation to the Australian government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to establish the Investing In Women (IW) program. IW became a supporter for the implementation of a number of IBCWE activities in realizing his vision. Steven Barraclough, the Minister Counselor Head of Economic, Investment, and Infrastructure Branch Embassy of Australia, represented DFAT on this celebration. A number of company representatives were also present among others from DHL Express Indonesia, Maybank, PT Hero Supermarket, Tbk, Standard Chartered Bank, Danone Indonesia, and Allianz.
