Last year, Indonesia ranked 92nd out of 146 countries. The Global Gender Gap score in 2023 reached 68.4% or 0.684, indicating an increase of 0.3% or 0.003 compared to the previous year.
Indonesia’s score has not changed from 2022, which is 0.697.
This indicates that Indonesia has only achieved 69.7% gender equality and this achievement has not changed from 2022. The score is based on four sub-indices, i.e achievement in the fields of education, health and survival, participation and economic opportunities, and political empowerment. The Global Gender Gap Report gives a score between 0 and 1, where 1 indicates gender equality and 0 indicates gender inequality.
The achievements in the education sector increased by 0.002 points.
In 2023, the achievement score in education is 0.972 points, compared to 0.970 points in the previous year. This score indicates that gender equality in the education sector in Indonesia is balanced.
The achievements in the health and survival sectors have not changed.
In 2023, the achievement score in the areas of health and survival will be at 0.970 points, the same as the previous year. This score indicates that gender equality in the health sector and survival is in balance.
The achievements in the areas of participation and economic opportunity fell 0.008 points.
In 2023, Indonesia has a score of 0.666 points, while the previous year it was 0.674. Despite the decline, this score is still within the global average.
The achievements in the field of political empowerment in Indonesia are below the global average.
In 2023, women’s empowerment in the political field will still be the lowest of the four sub-indexes with a score of 0.181 points. This score is below the global average, although it has increased 0.012 points from the previous year.
Indonesia is in sixth position out of 11 ASEAN countries.
Indonesia is ahead of Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Myanmar. At the Asian level, in general, Indonesia’s position is also ahead of several developed countries in Asia, such as Japan, China and South Korea.
